Terms of use

Plain terms for a free tool. By using the site you agree to them.

The service

gitmanual.com (“gitmanual”) is free to use, with no accounts. It writes setup manuals for public GitHub repositories from those repositories' own files. It may change, pause or stop at any time.

Commands are yours to check

Manuals and setup scripts are generated by rules from other people's projects. They can be out of date or wrong for your machine. Read every command and script before you run it, and run them at your own risk. gitmanual never runs anything on your computer itself.

No warranty

gitmanual is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind, including accuracy, availability or fitness for a particular purpose. To the extent the law allows, the people who run it aren't liable for any loss or damage from using the site, its manuals, scripts, browser extension, API or MCP server.

Fair use

Please don't:

  • work around the rate limits, or send automated traffic that degrades the service for others;
  • use the site to attack, overload or misrepresent anyone, including the projects it describes;
  • present gitmanual's manuals as official documentation of a project.

The API and MCP server are free for reasonable use under the same limits.

Other people's work

Each project, its code, name and logo belong to its authors, under its own license. Manuals quote parts of a project's public files to explain how to set it up. gitmanual isn't affiliated with or endorsed by GitHub or by the projects it describes. If you maintain a project and want something changed or removed, use the contact page.

gitmanual's own code

The software behind gitmanual is open source under the MIT license (source).
