Branch Setup Notes (pubspec/android behind)

apply the following minimal changes so the newer notification + categories features compile and run.

1) `pubspec.yaml`

Add these dependencies (versions can match your branch, but these are known-good here):

dependencies:
  shared_preferences: ^2.2.3
  flutter_local_notifications: ^18.0.1
  permission_handler: ^11.3.1
  workmanager: ^0.7.0

Then run:

flutter pub get

2) Android: enable desugaring (required by `flutter_local_notifications`)

Edit android/app/build.gradle:

In android { compileOptions { ... } } enable desugaring:

compileOptions {
    sourceCompatibility JavaVersion.VERSION_17
    targetCompatibility JavaVersion.VERSION_17
    coreLibraryDesugaringEnabled true
}

Add the desugaring dependency:

dependencies {
    coreLibraryDesugaring "com.android.tools:desugar_jdk_libs:2.0.4"
}

Also make sure minSdkVersion is at least 23 in the same file.

3) Android: notification permission (Android 13+)

Edit android/app/src/main/AndroidManifest.xml and ensure this permission exists:

<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.POST_NOTIFICATIONS" />

Prerequisites

Flutter 3.38.6 (managed via FVM)
Android Studio (Android only — iOS is not currently supported)
JDK 17 for the existing Gradle 8.11.1 / Android Gradle Plugin 8.9.1 setup

Installation

git clone <repository-url>
cd totals/app
fvm use 3.38.6 --skip-pub-get
fvm flutter pub get
fvm flutter run --flavor qa

If Android Studio bundles a newer JDK, select an installed JDK 17 with flutter config --jdk-dir="<path-to-jdk-17>" and verify it with flutter doctor --verbose. Use the JDK root directory containing bin, not the bin directory itself. This is a local Flutter setting shared by Flutter projects on that computer; it does not change the project's Gradle, Android SDK, or signing configuration.

To use the optional Spending Map, enable billing and the Maps SDK for Android in a Google Cloud project. Then add the Android API key to the ignored app/android/local.properties file:

MAPS_API_KEY=YOUR_ANDROID_MAPS_API_KEY

Restrict production keys by Android package name and signing certificate SHA-1. The stable and QA package names are detached.totals and detached.totals.test, respectively.

First-Time Setup

Grant SMS Permissions — required to monitor bank transaction notifications
Add Your First Account — enter account number, select bank, and provide holder name
Initial Internet Connection — needed to download SMS parsing patterns; Spending Map and other network-backed features also require a connection
